PRS TileBacker board is a rigid, water-resistant panel designed as a durable, stable, and moisture-resistant substrate for tiling on walls and floors. Ideal for wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, and wet rooms, engineered to replace plywood or plasterboard and prevent mould, rot, and tile failure.
Key Features
PRS TileBacker has many benefits over other sheet materials
Exceptional Fire Resistance
PRS TileBacker is non‑combustible, capable of withstanding extremely high temperatures (up to 1000–1200°C) without structural failure, making them ideal for fire‑rated assemblies and high‑risk environments.
Extensive testing with Exova testing labs ensure compliance to multiple BS and EN standards.
Please see our specification document for details.

High Durability & Strength
PRS TileBacker offers excellent impact resistance, resist bending and cracking, and outperform many traditional materials such as gypsum, plywood, and cement board. Their long service life reduces maintenance and replacement costs.

Moisture & Mold Resistance
They do not absorb water, swell, or degrade in humid environments, preventing mold and mildew growth and making them well‑suited for bathrooms, basements, kitchens, and exterior sheathing.

Acoustic Performance
They provide improved sound insulation compared to many traditional wall systems, making them useful for offices, schools, multi‑unit housing, and studios.

Eco-Friendly & Safe
MgO production requires less energy and emits fewer carbon emissions than cement‑based products. PRS TileBacker contain no harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, asbestos or VOC’s contributing to improved indoor air quality.

Design Flexibility
PRS TileBacker can be easily cut, and shaped.

Application
Installation Overview
-
PRS TileBacker can be fixed to timer stud, cementation/brick or steel studwork.
-
Stainless steel fixings are always recommended for any application
-
Available in 6/9 and 12mm, PRS TileBacker is also provided in 600/800 and 2400 x1200mm to easily accommodate all project requirements.
-
Tiles should be fitted to the smooth side of the board for best results.
-
Trimming boards to size can be achieved easily by marking the board with a straightedge, cutting along your marked line with a utility knife (ensuring you cut thereinforcing) then snapping the board along the line by pressing over a batten.
-
Where cut outs are required for fixtures or electrical boxes, it is recommended this isdone before installation of TileBacker
-
PRS recommends TileBacker boards are attached to studs horizontally on studpartitions with fixings at 300mm maximum centers both vertically and horizontally
-
fixings should be installed a minimum of 15mm from the edge of the board no closerthan 20mm from the corner, when fixing PRS TileBacker, insert fixings in the centerof the board and working outwards to avoid distortion.
-
TileBacker boards should be offset so that four corners never meet in one position.
-
When in a new build timber application then a 4mm gap is recommended betweenboards and a 6mm gap should be allowed along the finished floor edge to allow formovement/settlement of the framework.
-
Recommended maximum combined weight of tiles and adhesive:800x1200x9mm: 66kg/m²800x1200x12mm:100kg/m²
